Brenda Layman Awarded Honorable Mention in Vinnie Ream Competition
Central Ohio Branch member, Brenda Layman, was awarded Honorable Mention for her short story, “Kentucky Wonder Beans,” in the 2017 Vinnie Ream Competition.
The National League of American Pen Women established the competition to honor the legacy of NLAPW member Vinnie Ream, sculptor, writer, and composer. Her Carrara marble statue of Abraham Lincoln stands in the Capitol Rotunda. She believed that artists should strive to create work at the highest level in response to “the divine call to art.” Four categories are included in the competition: Art, Letters, Music, and Multi-Media.
“Kentucky Wonder Beans” is one of the short stories published in Best of Ohio Short Stories Volume II, an anthology of works about Ohio or by Ohio writers.
