“To Create…Takes Courage”
Georgia O’Keefe’s paraphrased quote was our inspiration for the 2024 Biennial theme. The extended quote is, “To create one’s world in any of the arts takes courage.” O’Keefe was a celebrated Pen Woman and iconic creative of her time. We pay homage to her tenacity and courage to find her own creative voice.
The Central Ohio Branch invites you to visit the heart of Ohio in Columbus next spring to share your creative voice. The beautiful Westin Great Southern Hotel will be the venue in downtown Columbus, a landmark hotel with an elegant, attached theater.
Why travel to Columbus? Besides the stimulating presentations, you will have opportunities to meet and greet other creative members from across the country. The historic Columbus Cultural Arts Center, a top-notch gallery within walking distance from the hotel will be the site for the art exhibit/reception and music recital. Nannette Maciejunes, an internationally known museum director, will be one of the keynote speakers. Guest performers are lined up for the Saturday evening art reception. At the conference, a special boutique room will offer displays and sales by our sponsors, speakers, and national members.
What else is in downtown Columbus? The State Capitol, a topiary garden of George Seurat’s “A Sunday on La Grande Jatte,” Thurber House Literary Center, Columbus Museum of Art, Franklin Park Conservatory with an art gallery and Dale Chihuly glass art installed throughout, the Short North Art District, German Village with Schiller Park, Ohio Theater, Wexner Center for the Arts on the Ohio State University campus, Columbus College of Art and Design, the Ohio Theater, and more. Several offer free admission on Thursday evening and Sunday afternoon.
