Premier of Jennifer Hambrick’s Poem Set to Orchestral Song
A poem by Jennifer Hambrick has been set to music as an orchestral song by Columbus composer Jacob Reed, and the song will be given its world premiere by the McConnell Arts Center Chamber Orchestra in Worthington on Sunday, April 29 at 3 p.m. The new setting of her poem will be featured alongside Jacob Reed’s musical settings of a poem by Rumi and a poem by a Thomas Worthington High School student.
This concert will feature an entire program of music with poetry. Hambrick will also be narrating Edith Sitwell’s poetry in William Walton’s quirky Façade Suite No. 2 and her own adaptation of the text for Stravinsky’s L’Historie du soldat (The Soldier’s Tale) – which she wrote on commission from the MAC Chamber Orchestra to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the premiere of the Stravinsky piece. There will also be a talk-back/Q&A session after the concert, with Hambrick, Jacob Reed, the student composer, and conductor Antoine Clark.
