“Risk and Serendipity”: Taking Great Leaps of Faith in Your Creative Process
Celeste Malvar-Stewart — fashion designer, felting artist and Faculty member at CCAD.
Biography:
Celeste is a Columbus-based, independent fashion and fibre artist who focuses on creating unique, sustainable, and ethical pieces. She works with Ohio shepherdesses to obtain wool, alpaca, and mohair fibre from their happy animals to create her hand-felted and low to zero waste textiles that form her couture fashion and art. She also incorporates natural dyes in her work, many of which she grows herself in her German Village courtyard or responsibly forages around the Columbus area.
In the spirit of sustainability, her goal is to create a deeper connection between ourselves and what we wear in order to add greater value to our clothing thus extending their use and lifespan, as well as supporting local family farms by using and promoting their fibres.
