Anita F Burgess Painting in 19th Kaleidoscope Exhibition
Anita F. Burgess’s mixed media painting, “Magpies,” is being shown in the 19th Kaleidoscope Exhibition for Akron visual artists. These are artists from the Akron Art Society, Women’s Art League, and Cuyahoga Falls Art League. It is a juried show. This year 65 artists were selected to be in the show. There are awards and a chance for the general public to select the people’s choice. People who come to the show can vote for their favorite. The art work with the most votes is the winner. This artist wins a handmade kaleidoscope.

Two Artist Show: Robie Benve and Becky Arthur
Robie Benve will have work at the Marcia Evans Gallery, in the Columbus Short North Arts District, during the month of October. For this show, Robie has created a new body of work, a collection of colorful, semi-abstract, landscape paintings using paper and acrylic paint.
The show will run from October 1 through October 30, with an opening reception at 1 pm on October 2.

Renate Fackler’s “Muggs” Sculpture Dedicated August 28
Renate Fackler was commissioned by the family of James Thurber and Thurber House to create a bronze sculpture of James Thurber’s mother’s dog, known as “Muggs, The Dog that Bit People.” Muggs, an Airedale terrier, bit the mailman, the milk man and even the mayor! James’s mother, Mame, would bake treats every Christmas for all of the people Muggs bit—including the lieutenant governor! Muggs was made famous in the writings and cartoon illustrations by James Thurber, a humorist, cartoonist, author, playwright, and journalist known for his quirky and relatable characters and themes. Bev Goldie Awarded Columbus Arts Council Professional Artist Grant
Bev Goldie was awarded an Individual Professional Artist Grant from the Greater Columbus Arts Council for 2021-22. The grant is for a series of encaustics entitled, “Derived from the Palettes of the Masters.” Her first piece, “Snippets of Monet,” will be featured in the upcoming “Language of Creativity” group exhibition in Dublin starting September 21 – October 29. It is a collaborative show with 23 members of the Central Ohio Branch of NLAPW, all professional artists, writers and musicians.
There is no cost to attend or park, but online appointments are necessary for limited viewing.

Dawn Petrill’s Work Appearing in a Variety of Shows
Dawn Petrill’s painting, “Passing Through,” was included in the Cleveland Institute of Art’s Alumni Show. Her mixed media drawing, “Musing at Indian Run Falls,” is part of the Dublin Art League’s juried Irish Show, and her painting, “A Calm Landing,” is part of the Floyd Center for the Arts 2021 Juried Show.
The Cleveland Institute of Art Show was held in the Reinberger Gallery in Cleveland Ohio in August 2021. The Irish Show is being held at the Dublin Community Recreation Center until August 27. The Floyd Center for the Arts Show is being held in Floyd, Virginia until October … ...See more
Jane Flewellen and Darlene Yeager-Torre to Show Work in Butler Midyear Exhibition
Works by two Central Ohio Branch members were juried into the 85th National Midyear Exhibition at The Butler Institute of American Art in Youngstown, Ohio. Jane Flewellen’s portrait, “Tim Sitting In”, and Darlene Yeager-Torre’s landscape, “A Summer Remembered”, were selected for the exhibit which opens July 18th.
Brenda Layman Publishes Poem on National Website
Brenda Layman’s poem, “By Whose Hands the Broom Swept,” was published on the National League of American Pen Women website. The poem, inspired by Alice Schille’s watercolor painting, Looking Out the Window, will be shown at an upcoming Central Ohio Branch Show in September.
