Vivian Ripley Featured in Columbus Monthly

Musician and artist Vivian Ripley was featured in the May 2018 issue of Columbus Monthly. She is a professional pianist, a music instructor, and painter. The article, “Vivian Ripley’s Endless Passion,” is also published on the Columbus Monthly website.

Premier of Jennifer Hambrick’s Poem Set to Orchestral Song

A poem by Jennifer Hambrick has been set to music as an orchestral song by Columbus composer Jacob Reed, and the song will be given its world premiere by the McConnell Arts Center Chamber Orchestra in Worthington on Sunday, April 29 at 3 p.m. The new setting of her poem will be featured alongside Jacob Reed’s musical settings of a poem by Rumi and a poem by a Thomas Worthington High School student.

Brenda Layman Published in Pickerington Magazine

Brenda Layman’s article, “Pickerington Graduates Give Advice for the 2018 Class,” was published in the April/May edition of Pickerington Magazine. Layman is a contributing writer for the magazine and many of her articles about local events and personalities have appeared there.

Brenda Layman Publishes Story on National Wild Turkey Federation Competition

Brenda Layman’s article, “Yelps, Hoots, and Cackles at NTWF Calling Event,” was published in the Spring 2018 issue of Ohio Valley Outdoors magazine. The magazine covers outdoor sports and events in Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia.

Layman is a frequent contributor to the magazine.

 

 

Vivian Ripley’s Pastel Awarded Best of Show

“Red Iris,” created using Vivian Ripley’s “water method,” recently took best of show at an exhibit at the McConnell Arts Center In Columbus, Ohio. Her special watercolor technique is spotlighted in a chapter in “The Watercolor Landscape Techniques of 23 International Artists.” Her paintings are in collections in the U.S., Canada, Great Britain, France, and Japan.

Brenda Layman Awarded Honorable Mention in Vinnie Ream Competition

Central Ohio Branch member, Brenda Layman, was awarded Honorable Mention for her short story, “Kentucky Wonder Beans,” in the 2017 Vinnie Ream Competition.

The National League of American Pen Women established the competition to honor the legacy of NLAPW  member Vinnie Ream, sculptor, writer, and composer. Her Carrara marble statue of Abraham Lincoln stands in the Capitol Rotunda. She believed that artists should strive to create work at the highest level in response to “the divine call to art.” Four categories are included in the competition: Art, Letters, Music, and Multi-Media.

Member Abby Feinknopf to Host Opening of Exhibit

National League of American Pen Women Central Ohio Branch

 

Abby Feinknopf will host the opening of her exhibit at Copious, on Wednesday, March 7th, from 5-8 PM. All members and friends are invited.

Her fabric collages, acrylic and paper collages, and latest bold acrylic paintings will be hanging throughout the restaurant. Those attending the opening may also take part in the restaurant’s $5 wine tasting. Dinner reservations are also available through Copious.

The exhibition will be hanging through the end of March.
