Vivian Ripley’s Pastel Awarded Best of Show
“Red Iris,” created using Vivian Ripley’s “water method,” recently took best of show at an exhibit at the McConnell Arts Center In Columbus, Ohio. Her special watercolor technique is spotlighted in a chapter in “The Watercolor Landscape Techniques of 23 International Artists.” Her paintings are in collections in the U.S., Canada, Great Britain, France, and Japan.

Brenda Layman Awarded Honorable Mention in Vinnie Ream Competition
Central Ohio Branch member, Brenda Layman, was awarded Honorable Mention for her short story, “Kentucky Wonder Beans,” in the 2017 Vinnie Ream Competition.
The National League of American Pen Women established the competition to honor the legacy of NLAPW member Vinnie Ream, sculptor, writer, and composer. Her Carrara marble statue of Abraham Lincoln stands in the Capitol Rotunda. She believed that artists should strive to create work at the highest level in response to “the divine call to art.” Four categories are included in the competition: Art, Letters, Music, and Multi-Media.

Member Abby Feinknopf to Host Opening of Exhibit
Abby Feinknopf will host the opening of her exhibit at Copious, on Wednesday, March 7th, from 5-8 PM. All members and friends are invited.
Her fabric collages, acrylic and paper collages, and latest bold acrylic paintings will be hanging throughout the restaurant. Those attending the opening may also take part in the restaurant’s $5 wine tasting. Dinner reservations are also available through Copious.
The exhibition will be hanging through the end of March.

Writer Member Brenda Layman to Judge 2018 Ohio Wetlands Habitat Stamp
Brenda Layman will serve as one of five judges who will select the artwork to be featured on the 2018 Ohio Wetlands Habitat Stamp. Since the first stamp was issued in 1982, thousands of acres of waterfowl habitat have been restored or enhanced. The first duck stamp – two wood ducks – was designed by internationally known Ohio artist John Ruthven. Since then notable winning artists have included Harold Roe and Adam Grimm.
